The following is a blog I have submitted to both TRC Media and Digforfire. It sums up my week at Digforfire DMG.

My week at Digforfire DMG

I had the opportunity to work at the Digforfire DMG studios for a week in June 2010. Being my first experience in a design studio, I was rather nervous but after a warm welcome from Chris Hart and Simon Ransley, I settled in very quickly. I was giving a thorough introduction to the company and the type of work they do, which was followed by a tour of the offices and introduction to some of the team. After an opportunity to discuss my own work and career plans, I was put to work right away. Throughout the week, I had the opportunity to work on briefs for the Open University and Castrol Oil. It was rather exciting to work on live briefs that were much more specific than what I had been used to at university. It was also interesting to see how the creative process works in a company such as Digforfire. The chance to sit in during creative meetings and presenting my own ideas was an amazing experience. Every member of the team was very approachable and very happy to talk about their responsibilities. Throughout the week I felt like one of the team and was treated as such. There was always something to do and everyone was very interested in what I had to say. Any concerns I had about working in a professional studio were very swiftly put to rest. During the week, I had the great chance to talk to Andy, who is the resident motion graphics and 3D maestro. He had some great advice and plenty of resources to share. He was very happy to answer any questions and after an hour, I had a new insight into the industry.

On my final day, Chris Hart and I participated in a feedback session. He gave me a review of my week at Digforfire and had plenty of advice to give. Overall his comments were very positive and I really appreciated all he had to say. Chris had been responsible for me for the majority of the week and I would like to thank thank him for taking the time to ensure I had a great time. And to all the guys at Digforfire, I would also to thank you for your warm welcome and I hope to see you all again very soon!
